1 h 44 minutes from Alton, Kansas along US highway 24 E sits the town of Clay Center located in beautiful Clay county.
Tucked away below the trees in a low laying area of Clay Center, Kansas you will find Utility Park. Utility Park offers a shaded playground, gazebos, picnic areas, a walking trail, and a small free zoo.
The park is taken care of by the city’s public utilities department and has been a favorite stop for many generations. Public utility employees have spent many hours creating the playground, an impressive Christmas display, and the zoo itself. All without any tax funds being expended on maintaining the park.
Much of the playground equipment has been donated by individuals and there are many dedicated volunteers that help with the zoo. The Zoo and Park are being expanded and will include the addition of a very nice walking trail. At the time of this post the zoo is undergoing a major fundraising feat to upgrade the facilities.
