Things To Do & See In North Central Kansas
This is the first in a series of 12 posts featuring attractions, from natural wonders to man made oddities and just about everything in-between; all of which you can find in North Central Kansas.
Our first post in this series of 12 is, as expected, The Craft Basket itself!
The Craft Basket is a cooperative craft shop that operates in the Alton, Kansas Community Room during the months of November and December. It was started in the 1980’s to provide a selling place for local crafters. It also serves the community by providing a nearby source of holiday gifts and food items.
The Alton PRIDE organization initiated the shop, and provides the room free of charge. The City of Alton pays for the electricity and part of the heating bills. All other fees and expenses, such as advertising, are covered through a nominal charge to each participant.
Open the first Saturday of November to the weekend before Christmas. Fridays & Saturdays 9 am-5pm & Sundays 1-5 pm The Craft Basket is the perfect place to shop for your holiday needs. The list of items you can find is long and varies but it has included: hats, scarves, blankets, jewelry, homemade soaps, jams, jellies, holiday décor, Christmas ornaments, woodworking, stained-glass, toys, crochet and knit items, hand painted wall décor, beautiful wreaths, fresh baked goods, and so much more!!
